Computers

I don't really know where to start talking about computing in my life--the subject is so vast. I've been at this since I was three. I started programming in 1997. From 2000 to 2005, I worked for a friend of mine and together we ran a medium-sized web hosting company. Now I work on my own as a consultant and programmer.

I learned Java in 1997, but didn't really understand all I knew until I dove back to the heart of personal computing and pulled out an old Toshiba 486 laptop. Although I grew up in a generation that really didn't know DOS that well, I cut my teeth on DOS. I didn't even see Windows 3.1 until 1993 or so. I still remember the late nights I spent perfecting a batch file or writing a new Visual Basic program. Visual Basic 1.0 is a novelty at this point but it was a useful tool. I later switched back out to Windows and expanded my horizons, learning C, Perl, PHP, and several other languages along the way.

I run Gentoo Linux.
